Sounds like a good thing, doesn't it?
Put "ethnic" in front of it, and it loses its innocence.
OK, for my purposes I stripped it back to just the one word, with a capital "C" for emphasis, because the "Cleansing" in Ghosts of Innocence is even more extreme. The Imperial navy appears overhead and reduces every city, town, and village to molten glass.
Picture Independence Day, but with rather fewer buildings left standing.
This is what happened to Shayla's home world.
This is why she's out to get the Emperor.

Somewhere I hope you'll cover the motivation for ethnic cleansing. Just rooted human evil and dislike for people who are different? Fear of a superior race? Population suppression?
We all have a vision of the perfect world and some of us as psychotic enough to try to achieve it....
Oh, this is so horrible, and it sounds like something that could really happen. If only people could learn to accept the differences in others!
The plot thickens, intrigue builds...I'm in for the long haul...I want to know what is behind this "cleansing".
Captivating "C" post.

I bet she's pissed! :)
Very succinct post. I remember this from the prologue ( I think that was a prologue, anyway) that I read.
Yay, story!

Well, if there was a question of motivation for Shayla's desire to get the Emperor, the answer is abundantly clear.
The Imperial navy aren't very nice. :(
Thanks for your comments, everyone. Obviously this is a pretty nasty thing to happen. Sadly, people do nasty things to each other in the real world. Luckily, this is fiction.
Kimberley and Jenny - there will be a hint of why Shayla's home world was Cleansed in the "E" post.
DL - you reckon? :)
J - Shayla watched this happen in my "alternative" chapter 1. That is likely what you are thinking of.
I assume you are promoting a book? I'm trying to visit all A-Z Challenge Blogs in April
Wow, that's one heck of a motive that Shayla has!
Sharkbytes, I guess I am promoting a book, but as it's not published it's not a very good promotion, is it? :D
I just thought this would be a fun theme, and it might motivate me to plow through another round of revisions.
Sarah, that's the idea ;)
