Emerging local authors

Now into its third year, the Greater Victoria Public Library is again celebrating emerging local authors with a special collection.

On Thursday evening I attended the launch of this year’s collection, showcasing over 100 local authors who are recently published, either independently or through a small press.

The library courtyard was crowded with authors and guests. It’s only when you see people and books assembled like this that you realize what a thriving occupation writing is.

Yes, Tiamat’s Nest is one of the books in this year’s collection. See here for more details about the GVPL Emerging Local Authors program.

How exciting for you, Ian. All the very best for Tiamat's Nest.

Stephen, I wouldn't call it "selection" as such. As long as you met the criteria and your book met certain standards you were in.

Denise, it was exciting to see my book in such good company :)

Woohoo! Good for you, Ian, to have this opportunity to be recognized and included with the local authors. :-) What a feeling that must be. :-)

Hi Ian - how delightful to see you standing proud with your book ... and to see the introduction so clearly in view ... brilliant - enjoy the weekend ... cheers Hilary

That is quite the major event. How cool you were a part of it.

Teresa, it's great to be part of something like this.

Hilary, I loved seeing the display in the library.

Alex, I didn't realize until I got there just how big a gathering it was!

Its great to see that local libraries are supporting area authors and helping to get your books into the hands of readers.

How very cool! Our library system does things with local authors frequently, and I love that fact, but to gather so many in one place? That sounds like an amazing event--and how wonderful to be featured.

Jean, our library network is active, well-used, and supportive.

Crystal, I was taken aback at how many authors were there. Writing does seem to be a thriving activity in Victoria.
