Shayla, codename "Shark", has rendezvoused in the forest with members of a terrorist cell. The injury she sustained escaping the starship is coming back to haunt her.
=====
Shayla grimaced as she shrugged her pack and cloak from her shoulders.
"You're hurt," Cobra said, concern in his eyes.
"My descent was never going to be easy." She tried to keep her tone casual, but she saw Weasel tense, oafish demeanor gone, and Tiger's face darken into tight-lipped anger.
Cobra reached out and peeled back the collar of her shirt, exposing the edge of the field dressing she'd applied.
"I have a vial of sprayskin in my pack," Shayla said, "I could use some help applying it properly."
"What use is an injured assassin?" Tiger's beam pistol was trained on her. "We should kill her now and return home while we still can."

I remember reading this scene in the book. You did a great job of building tension into it. I wasn't sure who was going to kill whom. :-) Good 8!
Yeah the problem with being an assassin is that you can't trust your fellow criminals. LOL. Enjoyed your snippet.
I agree with the above comments. Enjoyed the snippet. Tiger does not sound like a very nice fellow.
Juneta at Writer's Gambit
Whoa there Tiger...I bet she's still tougher than you are.
Loved this snippet.
Teresa, nobody dies (yet) but that reminds me there's a similar stand-off later on that might be worth a few snippets.
Cara, who to trust? Big problem for Shayla all the way through!
Juneta, Tiger's been grouchy from the start :)
Millie, Tiger doesn't know what fire she's playing with.
J.L. Glad you liked it :)
Oh dear. I can understand their reactions, I guess, but seems to me she's so tough, she'd be an asset no matter what. Can't wait for more!
Ooh, I love this snippet, and the descriptions, especially the line "Tiger's face darken into tight-lipped anger." Such a vivid depiction of emotion. Love the tension, and what a great last line :) Leaves me on the edge of my seat, and I hope Shark makes it through! She's a great character.
Veronica, they are also rather too used to a quiet life, as some future snippets might hopefully show.
Victoria, we'll see how Shayla reacts next week :)
Scary stuff going on in this snippet. What a way to solve problems. Oh, just shoot the bitch. Guess what. Things are about to change. Just guessing. Hope I'm right. Super snippet.
I suppose Tiger has a valid point, but not the smartest thing to shoot first and ask questions later. At least she knows who she can't trust now. Can't wait to see how she deals with Tiger. Great 8! Sucked me right in.
One thing is now clear. Tiger is not her friend. Nice description here too.
ooh, she's an assassin! Did we know that before? Another great scene. I like that one is concerned and the other wants to kill her. No shortage of tension here.
Uh-oh, Tiger is awful quick to want her gone... could there be some other motive for that? Very intriguing set-up.
Depends on what kind of assassin she is. Doen't sound like her injury is affecting her ability to think.
Charmaine, seems a pretty simple way to solve problems, though :)
Jenna, it probably makes sense if you don't want to be lumbered with a liability.
Elaine, not a friend at all!
Alexis, I don't think it's been mentioned explicitly before, but I don't think it would be a surprise if you've read earlier scenes.
Chelle, they are a rather no-nonsense bunch and not very tolerant of dead weight.
Sue Ann, spot on...as you'll see next week :)
love that image, "tight-lipped anger", well done!
So she is an assassin. Intriguing. And I am looking forward to finding out how she is going to get out of this pickle;).
Hey, an injured assassin is better than no assassin at all!
E.E.Giorgi, thank you.
Tina, pickle? All in a day's work :)
Caitlin, I guess that depends on what you need your assassin to do.
