The revision doldrums

Back in June 2012 I finished what I decided would be the last revision of Ghosts of Innocence, and settled on a cunning plan for publication.

In the last two years, the cunning plan has panned out thusly...

You can see where this is going, can't you?

Yes, I need to get back to Tiamat's Nest and revise the heck out of it. I know what needs to be done. I just can't seem to get started.

To say I'm stuck in the revision doldrums would be an overstatement. I'm not even there yet! I'm procrastinating, and I know it, and I hate it, but...Oooh! Blogs... posts... comments... funny cat videos...

Have you ever been in this position? Knowing you need to just knuckle down and get on with something, and yet...

How have you got yourself moving again?

Yep. I know the feeling. Like right now, I don't feel like editing or writing or anything.

But I have this cunning plan for the next five years...

The mind is willing but it's hard to flog the body into that desk chair..to pick up the pen...to write, perchance to dream.

I get stuck between the outline and first draft. I enjoy revisions, so that's not a problem, but I hate trying to get those first thoughts on paper.
I guess I just set aside the time and just do it.

Oh yes. Been there. Try just reading the novel. Not setting out to edit it. Just read it. Fall back in love with the words and then settle down to work.

LOL, Misha, a five year plan gives you plenty of time to catch up, doesn't it?

Delores, especially when the body is already tired from a long day at work :(

Alex, the outline and first draft is the fun part for me. It's hard work, but enjoyable. I just loathe revising. You are lucky there.

Jean, that's a great idea. I think that's what I need to get my mind back into that world. It's very different from Ghosts.
