Simple goals

This will just be a short post, but this time of year everyone is posting about goals and resolutions and I didn't want to feel left out.

I don't do resolutions, but I do set myself goals from time to time, not necessarily at the New Year. I also believe it's important not just to set goals, but to review them, see how well I'm doing to achieve them, and make course corrections as needed.

Goals for 2014...
  • Publish Ghosts of Innocence - CHECK! Including my goals of seeing my own artwork on a book cover, and holding a copy in my hands.
  • Edit Tiamat's Nest - not quite, but half-way there.
Goals for 2015 are pretty simple:
  • Finish editing and publish Tiamat's Nest.
  • Finish and publish The Critique Survival Guide.
  • Have more fun!
The last few weeks, taking a time out from writing, have reminded me how much fun I have with the visual arts, and I don't want to lose touch with that. I've finished the plans of the Implacable-class cruiser Merciless, and posted them to my web site, along with a bit of background on the ship.

I don't do resolutions at all, but maybe I should. You've given me some food for thought, Ian. You certainly made good with yours! Good luck and all the best with 2015. It's nice to be productive, isn't it? :)

I only have one resolution this year: Be more decisive. At least I think that's what I want.

Way to go with what you accomplished in 2014! I wish you all the best with your 2015 goals. Have more fun is also on my list. :)

David, made good with some, not with others. But that's the thing about goals - if you hit them all then you're not stretching yourself.

Delores, thanks.

Alex, it will be, if I can pull it off.

Stephen, are you sure? :)

Chrys, fun is a sadly-neglected aspect of life these days...we need more of it.

Those are some pretty detailed plans. I hope you meet your goals of getting two more books out this year. Hope some fun is in store for you too!

Loving the ship and that you succeeded in publishing Ghosts in 2014 (on my TBR list for 2015). Great point about reviewing goals and changing course as needed to actually reach them. Most journeys do not involve a straight line. Some creative rethinking is often in order. Cheers to a great year!

You got me at "have more fun" as one of your 2015 goals!

Good luck with all your endeavours - fun, publishing, more fun, more publishing… and hey, more fun! :)

Nick, I'm very pleased with how the ship plans turned out. BTW - you can zoom in to more detail by clicking on the images.

Shell, I like to make sure goals serve me, not the other way around :)

Jenny, I think fun is an important aspect.

Hilary, using my own artwork was one benefit of going indie. No chance of that with traditional publishing.
